This petition will hopefully inform the U.S. government that hemp and marijuana do infact belong in the United States and that we the people have the right to the truth. It has been legal in almost half of the country for years, and those states are doing fine. The DEA's classification of marijuana as a schedule 1 narcotic is completely wrong. Marijuana has a lesser chance of addiction than alcohol or cigarettes, it definitely has accepted medical uses, and it is very safe to use under medical supervision. Hemp and marijuana are the same species of plant, but they have very different properties. You can not become intoxicated by smoking hemp. It can be used as a cheap source of industrial fibers and fuel. The legalization of hemp and marijuana would accrue billions of dollars a year.
