Distilling alcohol is a tradition running far into history in the USA. It requires only basic chemistry and when done correctly is less dangerous than homemade wine as wine contains more methanol than whiskey. Wine is made from fruit which contain high levels of methanol (wood alcohol). Whiskey is made from grain which contains massively lower levels of methanol. Beer and wine are currently legal to produce in small amounts for personal consumption. Whiskey distillation should be legal in small amounts as well. This would keep the traditions of the immigrants who brought their distillation knowledge to this great nation alive as well as not discriminate against those who prefer whiskey over wine and beer.
