Many of the states in the US prohibit homosexual marriage or civil unions. This creates a lot of problems for LGBT couples. For example, they are denied 1,138 rights/benefits that are given to heterosexual couples. The taxes must be filed separately between the two men/women. Even if the couple is legally married in another that that does allow homosexual marriage, many states will not recognize this as a legal marriage for taxation and other purposes where such documents are needed. I think that the LGBT population of the US should be able to get married and have all of the same rights that heterosexuals have.
