The hemp plant was once a valuable agricultural commodity. In the DEA's fight against marijuana, this related plant was made illegal although the THC content is very low. Hemp farming would give another planting option to farmers. It's fiber is used in rope and twine production, biomass for ethanol production and it's seeds are very nutritious. Marijuana planted in hemp fields has a reduced THC content making it undesirable as a narcotic. Hemp production can only farmers, in these uncertain economic times, to diversify their planting options and improve profitability.
