Marijuana should be legalized on the federal level. The substance should not be in Schedule 1 due to its acceptance by doctors worldwide as having medicinal values. Marijuana was made illegal due to its direct competition to the lumber and pharmaceutical industries, this should not be a basis for illegality. It has not been found to cause any significant damage to the body, whereas alcohol has. Legalizing marijuana on the federal level would ensure citizens safety from persecution for consuming a safe substance. Regulation of it would bring billions in tax revenue to help the economy. Legalization will also help combat global warming/deforestation as it can be used to make thousands of products, many of which are made from trees. There is no logical reason for nature to be illegal.
