Marijuana is not nearly as dangerous as alcohol. People die from alcohol overdoses, but never from marijuana. Marijuana is not nearly as addicting as alcohol. It is therefore absurd that alcohol is legal but marijuana is not.
Tens of thousands are in prison for five years or more just because they used, possessed, or sold marijuana. Violent offenders often get much lower sentences than those convicted with marijuana charges.
If marijuana was legalized, our prisons would not be as crowded and people would be free to smoke a plant not nowhere near as deadly as alcohol. It would also allow people to use marijuana as treatment for illness where it is not currently legal.
