The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world that bans the production of hemp. Hemp should not be associated with the illegalization of marijuana as it does not have the same properties. The hemp plant has a multitude of uses and has been an incredibly valuable resource for this country throughout its history. From George Washington's plantations to the US NAVY in WWII, hemp has been utilized by this country. Hemp is a renewable resource that provides an extremely high yield of ethanol. It is more durable than cotton, makes better paper than lumber, and can be ingested as an excellent source of amino acids and other nutrients. It is time for this country to recognize the benefits of this plant again and progress into the future.
