The Commonwealth of Kentucky boasts the highest number of small-scale, family owned farms in the country. But many of them are struggling to make ends meet financially, and some have been forced sell their farms. They need a profitable cash crop that can be produced easily and has a high demand in a diverse number of markets. Industrial hemp is that crop. Used in everything from paper to bio fuel, hemp requires almost no herbicides/pesticides and is one of the fastest growing plants known to man. It can even control weeds and purify polluted soil and water. Though it is technically legal to produce hemp in ten different states (including Kentucky) its benefits remained unreaped because of resistance from the DEA (for outdated reasons). So lets give American small farmers a helping hand!
