Legalize the production, use and distribution of Marijuana.

Created by D.W. on August 21, 2012

Marijuana is a plant that is found in nature and there is no scientific evidence that it causes harm. On the contrary, there is significant scientific evidence that it has numerous health benefits, as well as being a recreational drug with few, if any, negative social repercussions. The arguement that it is a gateway drug is both misleading (alcohol and tobacco are the real gateway drugs) but also the direct result of prohibition. If marijuana was legal, people would not be forced to deal with violent drug gangs to use it. Full legalization would allow people to grow it for both medical and recreational use, and those who choose not to grow could buy it in an appropriate and safe retail environment. The taxes related to recreational marijuana can then be spent on social programs.
