Petition to legalize prostitution. Prostitutes themselves are not harmful or committing crimes. While the spread of disease and other detriments are possible with the act and practice of prostitution, criminalizing it is a sure way to blow the disease out of proportion, rather than addressing the affects. A good example of this is prohibition of alcohol. Prostitution is a victim-less crime because it causes no harm if it is a choice of two consenting adults. Also, if prostitution was legal, it would lower the rate of sex trafficking and rape.
It is estimated that if prostitution were legalized in the United States, the rape rate would decrease by roughly 25% for a decrease of approximately 25,000 rapes per year.
