In order to improve the safety of prostitutes and protect their rights, I believe that prostitution should be legalized. Legalizing and regulating prostitution would make the profession safer because the state would require STI and HIV testing on a regular basis. Also, by requiring security cameras and panic buttons in designated areas, sexual assault and physical abuse could be prevented. By legalizing prostitution, it frees up police resources, allowing them to crack down more pressing matters. Another benefit is that states would receive more money because prostitutes would be paying income taxes. Prostitution has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue to exist, so why not make it safer?
