Legalize the Ripping of Copy-Protected DVDs/Blu-rays

Created by G.O. on August 27, 2013

Piracy is a large and very complicated problem in the United States, with dozens of fines and arrests being dueled out each year. However, there is a line between piracy and having a back-up copy of a film. With the practice of ripping a copy-protected disc banned, we feel there is no way for a consumer of a product in the film industry to make a back-up copy of their legally owned film. That is where this petition comes in. We, the film goers of America, ask to be allowed the ripping of copy-protected DVDs and Blu-Rays, for the sake of convenience and the sake of our right to do so. If a disc gets scratched, what must you do? Buy a new DVD. We may not own the film, but we own the disc. We bought the disc with our money. We put it in our homes.
