The only states that currently allow same-sex marriage are: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, as well as the District of Columbia. However, even though these states recognize the equality needed in marriage, couples granted same-sex marriage are unable to file joint tax returns, be considered a "spouse" in medical situations, have joint health insurance, and (in most cases) are unable to adopt.
We need to bring same-sex marriage to all states in order to make these basic privileges of American citizens available for homosexual couples. Stop the hate and recognize the existence of same-sex couples. We're real. We're here. Let us get married.
