More and more, a large percentage of American support the right to same-sex marriage. Marriage equality is the only way to ensure certain benefits and protections to all persons as they seek life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Certain regions, the same which opposed many other civil rights campaigns that were necessary for the good of the American people and our country as a whole, are unlikely to extend protection and benefits to LGBT citizens. Just as the federal government had to intervene to ensure equality in education for racial minorities, the federal government will also have to intervene for equality of sexual minorities.
This will likely be a painful endeavor for bigots. However, the American Dream is not defined by the suppression of freedom, but by its expansion
