This is the same as the anti-miscegenation laws, which were laws that enforced racial segregation at the level of marriage and intimate relationships by criminalizing interracial marriage and sometimes also sex between members of two different "races". In many states that do not allow gay couples to legally marry, it is the same, for them, as marriages between enslaved blacks were not legally recognized during American slavery and Quaker marriages were considered invalid in the 17th Century which affected property succession for their children and spouses. The LBGTQI community wish to marry, for love, and for the same rights enjoyed by all American heterosexual couples. The LBGTQI community pay their fair share of taxes and as such deserve the same rights afforded by all.
