In 1978 congress passed legislation legalizing the home brewing of beer. Since then, many of the artisans behind the explosion of craft brewing in the US have gotten their start by developing skills in their kitchens & basements.
Homebrewing is a hobby to many and a way to refine recipes and create beverages to one's own taste. However, similar experimentation with distilling those same beverages remains illegal and even possession of the required equipment can bring fines and possibly jail time.
We believe that congress should act to allow home distillation of spirits on a similar scale and under similar rules as currently govern beer and wine.
