In the 1920's the use and production of alcohol was banned in the United States. Afterwards, black market alcohol trade sprang up all over the country. Eventually prohibition was lifted because it did not prevent alcohol from being consumed and created a bigger problem. Cannabis is the most widely used drug in the United States despite its illegality. Research is providing more and more evidence that it can be used to cure many ailments, including cancer. Along with medicinal legalization; recreational legalization, taxation and regulation will create a new lucrative industry for the country since the plant can be used in many different ways from creating rope to making fuel. This will also keep the money out of the black market and put it into the economy where it belongs.
