Thousands of job applications are reviewed everyday. A recent addition to the application is a listing of ethnic codes, which provides a way to document the hiring selection process to show non-discrimination and good faith practices. Ethnic groups listed in the ethnic code include American Indian or Eskimo, Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Caucasian. Omitted from this list of ethnic groups is the Cajun nationality. The Cajun people meet all of the qualifications of an ethnic group; which is defined as a group or race of people with a common ancestry, language, religion, and culture.
Therefore, Cajuns should be considered a nationality, and deserve the recognition of being included as an ethnic group listed in the ethnic codes on job applications.
