We ask the Obama administration to introduce legislation that would require all lawmakers to reveal any conflict of interest, or any personal material benefit or loss due to a piece of legislation, including changes to the tax code. If a lawmaker will materially benefit from changes in the tax law they must reveal that information.
Most lawmakers are part of the top 2% of income earners which means keeping the tax code where it is will mean most of them will personally have a lower tax bill.
Just as in the legal system, judges and lawyers are required to reveal conflicts of interest in cases they are litigating, the same should hold true of those who write and vote on the laws.
