2nd Amendment was added to US constitution to allow civilians to own lethal weapons to protect themselves from the government, based on the fact that armed civilians did fight for the independence of the US in the specific historical situation. But time passed by and the situation changed a lot, lethal weapons owned by civilians were rarely used to fight for justice against the government, instead caused tremendous civil casualties over centuries. Armed civilians are not capable of fighting against any modern army now, such purpose does not stand any more, the only effect is that weapons are used by some prepared civilians against other unprepared civilians. It is time to improve the 2nd Amendment to ban all lethal weapons but allow carrying non-lethal weapons for self-defense in US!
