When you look at other countries in Europe and Canada, you will notice that their maternity leave length is not 12 weeks, but some countries have a whole year of maternity leave. Why in the US where we all work extremely hard are we not rewarded with valuable time off to bond with our newborns? Instead we are forced to return to work sometimes as short as six weeks. Studies show that being home with a parent is beneficial to children, the longer the better. Instead I have to have someone else watch my child while I return to work.
I ask that the government review the maternity leave policy and extend time covered to at least six months, ideally a year. why should the US, made up of workaholics, not be given the same time off other countries provide this mothers and fathers?
