Lengthen the time period for students required to pay back their student loans. Increase the time limit to 1 year.

Created by C.M. on September 23, 2011

When a college student graduates from college or they go from full-time student to part-time, they are required to start making payments 6 months from that date. Since the economy has been slow to recover and jobs are hard to come by, especially by new grads it would helpful to lengthen the time from graduation to repayment. The time period should be lengthened to 1 year to give students enough time to gain employment and build up income so that they can make payments without drowning in debt. At the end of this year according to the Dept. of Education, student loan debt will hit $1 trillion. If students are allowed a longer time to begin repayment on loans it could potentially add more money into the economy, which in turn could create jobs. This would be a smart plan to help students.
