Alaska and the US are so socially different now, that I have literally spoken to people who legitimately believed that Alaska was not a state or even part of the US.
If Alaska seceded, the income from our oil would benefit us more in Alaska by 10 times. We could use our own oil and sell it for our profit.
The values held by the 48 contiguous states and Hawaii are not the values of the state of Alaska.
Here are the three things a country needs to be sovereign:
A permanent population: 731,449 permanent residents.
A defined territory: 663,300 sq miles of solid ground
A government with the capacity to entertain foreign relations: Of the 731,449 people living here, there's got to be a few politicians. (There are, our current government. And who doesn't love Sarah Palin!)
