Rather than arguing for a partial extension of the Bush tax cuts, I believe it would be politically smarter to simply allow them to expire and to propose a different, "Obama tax cut".
The former path will leave you the blame for raising some taxes, and the "Bush tax cuts" the credit for the ones that stay low.
The latter path will leave the blame for taxes going up where it belongs - with the Congress which made them temporary. And a very strong case can be made that we tried the Bush tax cuts for a decade, they were not successful, and it is time to try a different approach.
Then, you will have the opportunity to carefully craft a new tax cut - more stimulative and with the tax burden more equitably shared. The particulars here would be an appropriate subject for a new petition
