Let New York City Department of Education recognize Orthodox holidays

Many other religions have their holidays recognized by the New York Department of Education, but not the Orthodox holidays. There are many people and students in New York City that are Orthodox and are counted absent from school when they miss a school day for their holidays. Why should we recognize and close schools only for Muslim, Chinese, Jewish and other nations holidays when there are so many more religions and cultures in New York City and New York State.
