The system in which we leave voter registration laws up to the states is no longer tenable.
Since the Voting Rights Act was effectively gutted, the difficulties presented to low-income workers, people of color, and people with disabilities have only increased.
We call upon the federal government to enact new systems of registration and election that prevent the suppression of disenfranchised populations by the states.
We realized that there will be arguments against this as "unconstitutional." However, we would like to remind those respondents that the Constitution did not initially allow women or people of color to vote at all. Amendments are necessary.
Please let us vote. All of us.
