No one should have to wait hours in line to cast a vote. No one should have to wade through weeks of bureaucracy to get a voter ID. And yet, millions of people experience such delays and are denied their vote. To prevent this in the future, we the undersigned suggest the following country-wide reforms:
Mandatory minimums on the number of voting locations and their capacities in a district, based on voter registrations
Mandatory minimum lengths of early voting periods
Automatic registration with state IDs (driver's licenses)
More lenient registration deadlines
More lenient (or no) requirements for absentee/mail-in ballots
Easier ways to get voter IDs
Actual sanctions and penalties for illegal purges, ID denials, and excess location closings
The right to vote should not be controversial.
