As much as most of us wish we did not have to contribute monetarily to the functioning of the government and its services, we understand the necessity.
However, we should be able, as individuals, to have a say in the allocation of a fair portion of those funds that we contribute. 50% could be controlled as our elected representatives see fit to maintain the functioning of the government and programs they find to be essential. The other 50% should be allowed to be allocated according to the directives of the taxpayers themselves.
The system should be modified to allow taxpayers to indicate what departments/issues we'd prefer to contribute to. (i.e. General issues such as "Green Technology" or specifics within categories such as "solar" or "wind")
Allow us to vote directly with dollars.
