Our nation was once known as "The City on the Hill" -- a beacon of democracy setting an example for the other nations of the world to follow. Our democratic history encompasses rebellion against colonialist tyranny, successful revolution, a reasoned debate, and a history of compromise resulting in the founding of a great Nation based on the principles of compromise and democracy.
When a nation reaches the point in its history where compromise, liberty, equity and democracy are lost, its citizens use the guideposts of history to resurrect patriotism and a return to democracy. The French Revolution is an inspiration in such times as these.
What better way to jump start democracy than adopting a wise historic policy?
"Let them eat cake" should be our watchword.
