For the past several years, the official days for celebrating a number of traditional days honoring famous American people or events have been moved to a Friday or Monday to give people long weekends. To me, this is an insult to the memory of the people or events being honored, and is an example of the growing self-serving selfishness of the modern American people.
I petition that the official day of observation of these days be returned to the traditional days of observation. If people want long weekends, let them request the time off from their employers.
