The CDC has recently handed down voluntary guidelines that urge primary care providers to offer their patients non-opioid pain management alternative instead of the traditional opioid pain management route. Uncontrolled pain has no prejudice or discrimination toward anyone it affects. Many of us are either affected by chronic pain or know someone affected by chronic pain. This new pain management pathway to treat chronic pain includes prescribing NSAIDS, physical therapy, and the lowest dose available to patients who require opioids. Sadly, these new recommendations, though voluntary, can lead to even more uncontrolled pain, a severely reduced quality of life, and inadvertently, a rise in obtaining their pain drug of chose illegally. Take action before this becomes standard practice.
