At the amtrak website (http://www.amtrak.com/bring-your-bicycle-onboard), there are only 8 trains listed that show walk-on bicycle accommodations with most trains having 6 or less bicycle slots available and one with the most of 8 bicycle slots. Our other option is to box our bike...this requires mechanical skills, difficulty in transporting a large cumbersome box, and may not be an option at all locations.
If Amtrak would initiate a bike friendly policy to most of their trains, can you imagine the impact on getting cyclist to the distant locations that they dreamed of cycling at affordable costs and with their bikes? The dream is still there, being able to integrate the rails and bicycle adventures.
Lets replace the missing caboose with a cycleboost.
