Similar to tobacco & alcohol, there should be a prohibitive tax on all types of firearm, ammunition, and related components and equipment such as high-capacity clips & magazines. The levied tax should range 300% - 500% of the MSRP of the firearm & ammo – the deadlier the type of firearm/ammo and higher the capacity of clip, the higher the tax that is applied. This tax must be applied on ALL sales, public and private – allowing all firearm & ammo sales to have oversight and regulation by state and federal/IRS tax agencies. Tax revenues are then directed to fund anti-gun violence campaigns, education, and non-profit organizations – similar to anti-smoking and anti-drunk driving efforts. Best of all, this prohibitive firearm/ammo tax would avoid all Second Amendment infringement & objections.
