The responsibilities of owning a firearm are similar to those of owning an automobile. Because of the potentially deadly consequences of gun ownership, it important for every gun owner to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the general populace that they possess the maturity, emotional stability, and are able to meet the financial liabilities should their firearm(s) inflict injury(ies) or damage. There should be a minimum age, a proficiency examination, and a requirement for liability insurance for each weapon.
