When companies have consumer payment or ID information stolen, the typically two years of complimentary credit monitoring. This does not compensate victims of corporate negligence, nor does it offer any consolation if a consumer faces identity theft or fraud two years and one day after they signed up for such monitoring.
Please push for federal legislation requiring companies from whom consumer information is stolen to provide:
1. Lifetime credit monitoring and reporting for each victim of these hackings and their immediate wife/husband & children.
2. Lifetime fraud insurance for each victim of these hackings and their immediate wife/husband & children.
Common sense tells us that if a company makes a mess, it must be responsible for cleaning up, not the customers who trusted it.
