Recently, the United Nations General Assembly called for the United States to lift its embargo against Cuba. The decision was an overwhelming 188-3-3 in favor of the US lifting the embargo,
Not only is there international pressure to do so, but lifting the embargo would also:
Promote the free market in Cuba through the use of trade
Increase American exports
Improve relations with one of America's closest neighbors
Decrease profits made by illegal smuggling opperations
The embargo has been in place for over 5 decades, and no change has happened in Cuba. Meanwhile we maintained trade with the Soviet Union, which collapsed, and China, which has become increasingly capitalistic
The embargo is cruel to the people of Cuba, who do not deserve to be caught up in petty politics.
