The FDA currently does not allow blood donations from all men who have sex with other men (MSM) for one year. This is despite reports that show that monogamous gay men have less risk of disease than promiscuous straight men.
After the tragic Orlando club shooting on June 11, many hospitals are calling for emergency blood donations. It is an insult that many friends and families of those directly impacted are unable to help because of this arbitrary ban.
We ask the White House to demand the FDA reviews this policy. This blanket ban is inappropriate and overly broad. It is a product of AIDS scare of the 80's, rather than the science of today.
