Lift the 40-year-old ban on U.S. crude-oil exports. The reasons for enacting the export restrictions no longer apply.
The Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University said in a January 2015 report that lifting the ban, which was put in place during the Arab oil embargoes of the mid-1970s, would help producers and consumers, as well as improve U.S. security overall.
The Center for Energy Studies at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy argued in a March 2015 report that removing the export ban on U.S. crude will have positive “implications for overall market function, infrastructure investment and energy sector activity.”
