There should be a lighting system at the White House wherein President and Mrs. Obama would choose a color to be displayed that would reflect the mood of the executive that day.
Purple might mean that Bibi Netanyahu was having Thanksgiving dinner with Speaker Boehner, green that the minimum wage had gone up, sunny yellow that a cure had been found for a childhood disease.
Green might indicate that all the Secret Service agents were sober and where they were supposed to be, that it was raining in California, that the kids were happy and healthy and that Ted Cruz and Rush Limbaugh both had laryngitis.
It's a simple and intuitive indicator that would be comprehensible by the media, who want to amp everything up, and citizens, who seem uninterested in anything more complicated.
