We would like the White House illuminated in blue light on April 2, 2013 to help increase awareness of Autism.
The CDC identifies around 1 in 88 American children as on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in 40 years, which is only partly explained by improved diagnosis and awareness. Studies estimate that 1 out of 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls are diagnosed with autism in the U.S.; with even higher rates for children of our military members.
More children are diagnosed with autism each year than with juvenile diabetes, AIDS or cancer, COMBINED. ASD affects over 2 million people in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide. Statistics suggest that prevalence rates are increasing 10 to 17 percent annually.
Our White House would be joining many other famous structures worldwide. Thank you
