Limit adolescent exposure to alcohol by reducing alcohol advertisements

Created by A.W. on May 29, 2015

Petitioning the FCC to impose formal policy banning the advertisement of alcohol on television programming with an underage audience of 15% or greater. Studies show adolescents, particularly under the age of 8, are more susceptible to advertisements and early exposure to alcohol leads to underage drinking. While currently the FCC has a self-regulatory policy banning the advertisement of alcohol on television programming with an underage audience of 30% or greater, underage drinking is still increasing. Studies also show underage drinking leads to developmental issues which can impede a child's ability to learn. Through education human society has prospered, but underage drinking slows this progression. Through better policy on alcohol advertisements, we can help assure a brighter future.
