For 2012, it is estimated that candidates will spend a total of $6 billion, more than any other country in the world. In comparison, in 2010 the U.K. spent about $91 million. For a country fallen on hard times, we can't afford to spend $6 billion to give someone a job when almost 13 million of us don't even have a job. Does spending that much money make us a better country or get us a better politician?
This is a petition to end outrageous spending and limit the spending of each party to allow candidates to compete on a level playing field. In addition, this will help encourage candidates to spend more time focusing on the issues rather than fundraising, prevent candidates from being swayed by large contributors, and keep more hard earned money in our pockets.
