Federal legislative representatives should recieve no retirement benefits greater than those that the men and women who serve in the US armed forces recieve. Military members are required to serve 20 years before they are eligible to recieve 50% of their final pay in their retirement years. Representatives currently can receive 'no more than 80%' of their final pay at age 62 after just five years of service (according to 2007 data).
We propose changes to the legislative pension plan so that our elected representatives receive benefits equal to (and not greater than) those who serve in the armed forces.
This might also help remove career politicians who look to their pockets before the American public, and encourage more civic mindedness in its members. It will also decrease the deficit.
