When an individual's amassed fortunes exceed that individual's contributions to society, society suffers. The problem of economic disparity in the United States is compounded, not only by the ever-growing wage gap in our country, but also across generations. As the rich get richer (and pass their fortunes onto subsequent generations), the poor and middle class get left behind, with no realistic hope of achieving the American Dream our ancestors once worked (and sometimes died!) for.
To rekindle the American Dream in the hearts and minds of our people, we need to begin by leveling the economic playing field so that everyone born in this country has a fair shot at success. Establishing a maximum cash value of an inherited estate (with the remainder taxed) is a place to start.
