I am largely neutral, like many of my peers, on the gun debate. Any weapon ban most likely won't affect me an my 12 gauge shotgun used for sporting clays and home defense. However, I believe that the 2nd amendment was put in place not only to protect ourselves from home intrusion or foreign enemies, but also domestic. I feel that if an assault weapon ban is put into effect it is within the American people's right to demand a similar ban to the use of such weapons in law enforcement.
While we may not be under the direction of a tyrannical government now, who is to say that won't be the case in the future? If the American people are banned from possessing such firearms how will we be able to protect ourselves from possible future tyranny that is lawfully allowed and given banned weapons?
