limit news media reporter access to our children in the wake of serious crimes or natural disasters.

We urge this Administration to examine the actions of the News Media in covering serious crimes and natural disasters, specifically concerning interviews with children in the immediate aftermath of events that have clearly been traumatizing to them. Parents of these children may have been asked by the Media for permission to interview, but the parents most likely have been traumatized by the same events. We feel that they may well be impaired in their ability to make sound decisions for their children in the few hours after a tragedy. We feel that the Media is acting in its own interest, rather than that of the Public, and certainly not in the best interest of a child. We ask for legislation governing reporter access to our children in the hours following traumatic events.
