With the exception of a few industries such as airline, trucking, and some physicians, many exempt employees are not protected by many of the labor laws restricting and paying for hours beyond an average work week. Hourly employees get overtime, have a threshold (40 hours) that they can refer to as a full time week, and can negotiate accordingly.
This petition aims to begin the process of reviewing, evaluating, and to begin looking at ways to standardize and improve working conditions for salaried employees by providing those standards to employers, and employees.
