The Affordable Care Act requires us to enter the exchange to get insurance. However, there are very high out of pocket expenses, on top of premium payments. High deductibles and out of pocket costs do not create affordable care for citizens. If we pay a premium, we ARE being responsible for our care. Consider a family of four making $90,000 and paying $700 premium per month. This is an $8,400 expense, with a family deductible of $12,250, as many exchange plans have. This is an expense that is NOT affordable for a middle class family.
