50 of the worst charities in the U.S. raised $1.3 billion over the last decade and over $1 billion of that went to solicitors hired by the organization. This is a travesty and punch to the gut of the generous donors. We donate to make a difference, not to fund solicitors. Imagine how many more people could have been helped with even 50% of the donations going directly to them. According to a recent CNN article, if that money would have gone to charity, it would have funded 20,000 habitat for humanity homes, buy 7 million wheelchairs, or pay for mammograms for nearly 10 million uninsured women. Clearly, something needs to be done and the money needs to go to the charities, not solicitors!
