Under the current regulations, any legal immigrant who has been on U.S. soil for even one day is entitled to receive a full PELL grant and Federal student loans totaling $9,500.00 annually, having paid nothing into this fund via taxes. This petition is intended to raise awareness of and correct this problem, saving billions each year and investing first in our U.S. citizens.
This petition proposes that the award of Federal financial aid for post-secondary education be limited to those who have been in this country and paid taxes into the budget for at least 6 months prior to becoming eligible to receive this aid.
